Cycling is on the rise with more Australians speaking with their pedals.
Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show that for the tenth year in succession Australians have purchased more bicycles than cars, purchasing 1,154,077 bicycles in 2009. Across the ten year period since 2000, over 11,000,000 bikes have been sold in Australia, 2,000,000 greater than the car industry.
It is clear Australians are buying bicycles in record numbers and using them increasingly as a replacement to short and medium car trips.
Here in Orange, cycling is booming with a commitment and vision from the bicycle industry, cycling clubs, cycling teams and businesses helping to create more cycle friendly communities.

Owen Macphillamy has raced in Belguim and works at Darryl Grants Cycles, offering a wealth of industry knowledge to customers.
The Orange Cycle Club, driven by volunteers also provides regular cycle races, with the upcoming Christmas Cup to be held at the Forest Reefs Tavern on 18th December.

“Cycling is helping make our communities more friendly, fight climate change, address the obesity epidemic, reduce congestion and make Orange more liveable for all,” said Darryl Grant.
