ORANGE Cycle club member Tim Guy has capped off a successful return to cycling with an impressive performance in the 120 kilometre A grade scratch race in Mudgee.

Guy was the best performing Orange rider out of an impressive field on Sunday and led a break away group for a lap before dropping out of contention nearing the finish.

Rain forced the conditions of the race to deteriorate but, after taking a year’s break from the sport, the former Australian junior rider shone.

In Saturday’s 90km handicap event Grant Roe and Michael Cain were the best placed Orange riders.

Roe finished in 10th while Cain finished in 13th as he worked tirelessly to drive his bunch forward, only to fade close to the finish.

Michael Troy, Tim Guy and Angus Tobin also participated and started in the same group.

The trio worked well and kept the scratch riders away until the 60 kilometre mark, where Angus and Tim were dropped.

Troy continued on for about another 20km but finally succumbed and fell from contention with about 10km to go.

Troy recorded the fastest time for an Orange Rider with two hours, five minutes and 39 seconds while the fastest time of the day was recorded by Illawarra rider Scott Law who finished in 1:56.49.
