Singletrackminded Rnd 3 from the Monkeys
Singletrackmind series, Rnd 3, Yellomundee – June 13th.
Winter was definitely present for the 3rd round the Singletrackmind enduro series. It was cool but after leaving the FFi home base of Orange it wasn’t cold. No Gordo today, but an ex Norba champ and Olympian in Paul Rowney meant the pace was going to be hot! Szpytko took the opening lap and although he struggled to clear some early traffic Joe quickly had the Monkeys in 8th.
Steady progress was made through the next 2 hrs and midway through the 7hr race the FFi racing crew were plugging away in 5th. Then Rod crashed and seemingly never fully recovered, Joe continued to turn fast and consistent laps maintaining their strong position, but Rod didn’t get back up to speed, the laps were good but not great, this meant they were falling back into the grasp of Hoax racing who had a mechanical failure earlier and were working their way but up the leaderboard steadily. After 6hrs Rod had nothing more to give and Joe had to double to see them out. Only on the final lap did the Hoax team finally catch and overtake the Monkeys and finally crossed the timing line 20 seconds ahead, relegating the Monkeys to 6th in class and 10th overall.
After round 3 the FFi Racers are 3rd in class.
