Singletrackmind series, Rnd 2, Nowra – May 16

A bright sunny morning welcomed the Darryl Grant Cycles Workshop Monkeys to Nowra’s Currambeene State forest for the second round of the Singketrackmind enduro series.

The 8hr event was to be run over a 10k loop that was a mix of singletrack and fast fireroad, overtaking wasn’t a problem even with approx 400 riders entered across the catergories. The mens open pairs was looking like a battle of the big guns, Rockstar racing entering Craig Gordon and Troy Glennan for the first time in the series. The usual suspects were always going to be hard to beat with pro riders and teams from Giant, Yeti, Brave Soldier and KOM all looking for the podium.

Rod Farrell started for the Monkeys and with a good start and solid second lap from Joe the Monkeys were firmly established inside the top ten in class. The laps rolled off and time ticked by, the monkeys kept a steady rhythm and maintained positioned. After 6hours fatigue started to become more of a factor and Farrell moved the Monkeys up to 7th, next lap Szpytko took 6th. That was it for the late charge, and with the Brave Soldier team 15mins up the road the Monkey’s consolidated their 6th  in class for some good series points. 9th outright out of 176 entries.

After the second round, The FFi Racers are 3rd in the series.
